The Sarf family has been involved in horse racing since 1987. Larry and his wife, Leslie, shared their first date at Belmont Park in 1967, and together they’ve owned 15 horses, winning multiple stakes races, including two consecutive New York State-bred stakes with Quiet Ruler (2002) and The Mohawk (2003). In the 1990s, they won the Toboggan Stakes with Blare of Trumpets. After a brief hiatus, they’ve returned to racing with a stable of over 10 horses.
LSU Stables is named after Leslie and Larry, both Brooklyn natives. The “L” stands for Leslie and Larry, the “S” for Sarf, and the “U” symbolizes the unity of their family, including their son Randy and four grandchildren.
Recently, LSU Stables' Far Bridge took control early in the $750,000 Resorts World Casino Sword Dancer Invitational (G1) at Saratoga, holding off the favorite, Measured Time (GB), to secure the victory. He then went on to win the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic (G1) at Aqueduct, defeating the defending champion, War Like Goddess.
The mission of the BCCA is to provide a safe, supportive, and academically enriching environment for the children of parents working in the Thoroughbred racing backstretch at New York’s historic Belmont Park, Aqueduct Racetrack, and Saratoga Race Course. LSU Stables is proud to have been the recipient of the 2023 BCCA Humanitarian Award.
"We are very proud and love being a part of BCCA. We look forward to continuing to support its mission and the wonderful programs they provide for the children." - LSU Stables
